Released in 1999 by non-sport trading card manufacturers Inkworks, the Buffy Photocards were and still are an incredibly unique set.
Instead of the standard 2.5"x3.5"trading card format, the Photocards are more like actual photographs. They measure at 4"x6" and have a full-bleed (marginless) design with a glossy finish. Each card features a photo of the cast or a cast member from seasons 1, 2 or 3. 54 were created for the base set plus 6 chase cards (1:17 packs), bringing the grand total to 60.
Each packet of 6 cards is reminiscent of the old Kodak envelopes (albeit thinner and made of paper rather than card) and they are easier to open than a regular foil packet of trading cards.
The binder used to house the Photocards came with special pockets to put the photos in, making it look just like a photo album. It's worth stating that the binder uses exactly the same design as Inkworks's Buffy Season 3 set.
As with regular sets of trading cards, there was also a separate checklist (obtained through the mail-in offer on the individual packets of cards) and sell sheet available.
A total of 6 chase cards were created for the set, these run from B1-B6 and are easily identified by the platinum foil-stamped logo in the corner. Autographs weren't part of the set but Anthony Stewart Head signed a selection of photos for dealers.
